A not bad Vin de Pays d’Oc from the Daniel Bessiere camp. Nice, fresh and lively on the palate. Good robust notes of peach, acacia honey and a hint of lemon thyme. A decent wine that would be good with deserts or as an aperitif.
Cost 3.50€ a bottle
Féminalise 2008 Award (”Féminalise 2008″ competition with wines tasted only by women).

With all Aussies celebrating Australia Day this Monday we happily provide three wines that would be a great addition to any BBQ or party you’re throwing. The first is a single vineyard Canberra riesling that can be had now, or cellared for Australia Day 2020. The next is a Barossan red blend from a Young Gun of wine, while the last offering is a ‘drink-now’ styled shiraz also from the Barossa. And what could be more Aussie than drinking shiraz with your mates!?
Gary Vaynerchuk tastes 4 wines from Okanagan with a visitor who graciously brought these wines to the thunder show!
Gary talks about him starting to cry a tad today and then refocusing and crushing it!

This blog was hacked in October of last year, meaning even after I fixed it I was still stuck in Google’s naughty corner and have been getting next to zero traffic from them and my key word listings went from the top 10 to to bottom million. Signs for the new year look better, even if the traffic is still low, there are signs that it will start picking up again. Since I was hacked, I’ve not been putting a lot of time and effort into my posts on here, but the new year will see a change to that. I plan to be out and about a lot more trying new wines, taking photos and shooting videos, both for this blog and my Life in France blog. 2009 look set to be a Fine Wine year for me.
Goals for this year:

How much would you expect to pay for an Australian Shiraz which won gold at one of the most well respected wine shows? How about under $10! The De Bortoli winery continues to impress across the range and this bargain red is certainly no exception. We also look at a Shiraz Grenache blend from Western Australia and a Chardonnay from the Yarra Valley.

A cheapo wine from the supermarket chain Lidl. This vino from South Africa is a bit on the bland side but at 2€ a bottle is is o.k. value. It is a bog standard table wine that is a bit to fruity and lacks any depth of flavours. In fact there is just a single flavour which is a sweetish dark fruit cocktail and reminds me of the mixed fruits juice drinks you find in the supermaket and that are aimed at children. For a cheapo wine it is fine and would suit spicy or BBQ’ed food.

It would seem that the U.K. have become a bunch of winos. I thought wine sales would have dropped after we moved to France
but it seems others have taken up the reins. Brits now quaff 28.3 litres a year each. 1.6bn bottles of wine found the way down the necks of Brits in 2007, most popular of which where wines from Australia.
